National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is a Society registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 and is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology.
NABL has been established with the objective to provide Government, Industry Associations and Industry in general with a scheme for third-party assessment of the quality and technical competence of Conformity Assessment Bodies (Testing including Medical, Calibration Laboratories, Proficiency Testing Providers and Reference Material Producers).
DRDO was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO). DRDO was then a small organisation with 10 establishments or laboratories. Its primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment which reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon. Accreditation assures users of the competence and impartiality of the body accredited.
The WHO Certification for finished pharmaceutical products is an international voluntary agreement to provide assurance to countries participating in the Certification Scheme, about the quality of pharmaceutical products moving in international commerce (World Health Assembly resolution WHA22. The primary document of the Scheme was the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CPP). It is an administrative instrument that requires a certifying country), upon application by a commercially interested to certify/attest to the competent authority of the recipient country that: ¾ a specific pharmaceutical product is authorized for marketing in the certifying country, or if not, the reason why authorization has not been accorded; ¾ the manufacturing facilities and operations conform to good manufacturing practices (GMP) as recommended by WHO.
SITRA is one amongst the chain of laboratories in the country. It is an autonomous scientific research organisation registered in May 1951 under the Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860. It is governed by a Council of Administration consisting of twenty-five members who include representatives of the Industry, the Central and State Governments and the scientists from reputed Institutions.
The foundation stone of SITRA was laid by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 25th December 1955. SITRA commenced functioning in 1956 in the premises of the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA), Coimbatore, with 44 member mills and two Divisions.
